On the Topic of Friendship

I’ve heard as long as I can remember, if you’re lucky enough to have one true friend in this world, then you’re blessed indeed.

I have one such friend and I finally understand what that quote means.

You all know when I went through the 365 it was three of us, my Amy, and Josh. It was just about a year ago when Josh broke my heart and ended our friendship and I was beyond devastated. It took me a long while to get past that hurt, but I have resurfaced into life, into purpose, with Amy beside me where she’s been all along. The truest, bravest, best friend anyone could ever want.

2018 was actually a huge relationship shake up year for me all around. I lost Josh who I thought I’d be friends with forever, but I gained Tammy, and my relationship with my sister has deepened and become so much more meaningful. Add to that, Kim, Karen, and Shonna, and I have a full circle and that’s such a beautiful thing.

As I’m gearing up to go back to the site, the blogs, the magazine, and the fiction, I’m just taking a moment to express how grateful I am for my friendships, but especially Amy. I’ve never had a safe place in all my life and now I do. We work things out, we don’t tear each other down. I could not do what I do in this world, without her. I know this because I’d tried to do most of this at many times before and the relationships around me always got in the way. Now I have relationships that actually lift me up. All the platitudes I ever heard about friendship, that had never been my experience, well, now they are.

And I will tell you all this, if you’re lucky enough to have an Amy of your own in this life, then you’re blessed indeed.

I have a lot planned for 2019 and I couldn’t do any of it without her and I couldn’t start this new chapter without saying so.
